CARY – Outbreaks, Inc. plans to start sales of its first over-the-counter medicine, having raised funding from nine investors.
According to an SEC filing the company has raised for $500,000. WRAL TechWire spoke with Steven Lutz, the Director and Executive Officer for the company about his new venture.
Their first product is an all-natural solution for treating cold sores, he explained. Made with four active ingredients and combined with essential oils, this homeopathic remedy is one that Lutz believes can compete with the existing products in the market.
The cold sore market was valued north of $825 million in 2021. That number is expected to increase and estimates have it above $1.3 billion by 2029.
Outbreaks, classified as “Other Healthcare” in the SEC filing, will be based in Cary. According to Lutz their first product will be offered online initially, with plans to get it into food and drug chains across the country.
The initial product was purchased from a Pakistani company, Botanicx, that is focused on premium-quality skincare solutions. This product will be made in the USA, according to Lutz.
The company is named “Outbreaks” for its desire to provide other homeopathic, over-the-counter solutions for anything that routinely involves uncomfortable outbreaks. Examples include acne or poison ivy. Lutz indicated that they have other products planned.
“We really want to be focused on things we can cure all naturally,” said Lutz.
